COYOTE ROOM
New Mexico
Speculative Design Completed 2020

The Coyote Room is a 400sf outbuilding nestled in a sagebrush and piñon landscape, for whatever reason a landmark on the coyote footpath that wends into the nearby national forest. Utilized as a two-car garage under prior ownership, the space is reimagined here to be more beneficial for the current inhabitants who own only one hardwearing vehicle. The Room is at once a pool hall, a lodge lounge, a photographers studio, and a guest bunk. In keeping with the tradition of rugged timelessness admired in so many New Mexican outposts, the finishes are modest, durable, and serene. A bent steel sign in scrolling script hints at the reverence to both humble practicality and minimalistic polish in equal measure.
